Building a wood box stand for your home is a fun and rewarding DIY project that can add a touch of warmth and character to any room. A wood box stand can be made from a variety of types of wood, including oak, pine, and maple.

The size of your wood box stand will depend on the size of your box and the space where it will be placed. A standard size for a wood box stand is 24 inches wide, 18 inches deep, and 36 inches tall.

To start building your wood box stand, you will need to gather your materials, including the wood, nails, and a saw. The type of wood you choose will also depend on the style and design of your stand, as well as the climate and humidity levels in your home.

A wood box stand can be used to display decorative items, store books or magazines, or even serve as a coffee table. With a little creativity and some basic tools, you can create a beautiful and functional wood box stand that adds to the charm of your home.

Materials and Requirements

To build a wood box stand, you'll need the right materials. For the project I'm describing, I used DAP Premium Wood Filler, Weldwood Wood Glue, and DAP Rapid Fuse All Purpose Adhesive.

You'll also need some wood scraps, specifically 1x3 primed trim, which I used three 8-ft pieces of. These will be the frame of your stand.

To assemble the stand, you'll need 1 inch brad nails. I found that 220 grit sandpaper came in handy for smoothing out the wood.

You'll also need paint or wood stain to finish the stand. I used acrylic black paint, but you can choose any color you like.

Here's a list of the materials you'll need:

  • DAP Premium Wood Filler
  • Weldwood Wood Glue
  • DAP Rapid Fuse All Purpose Adhesive
  • Shiplap scraps
  • 1x3 primed trim - 3 pieces, 8-ft long
  • 1 inch brad nails
  • 220 grit sandpaper
  • Paint or wood stain

Design and Planning

To design a wood box stand, it's essential to consider the dimensions and plan carefully. The floor needs to be erected 7 feet above ground level.

The side dimension should range within 6 by 4 feet, making it easy to get in and out of the box stand quickly. This size will provide ample space for your needs.

Using 2×4 inches of wood for the frame is a good idea, as it will provide the necessary strength and support for the structure. The door frame should be 12 inches in size for easy access.

A plywood sheet of ¾ inch on the exterior part of the floor will produce enough strength to accommodate your weight. This will ensure the stability and durability of the box stand.

Instructions and Assembly

To assemble the wood box stand, you'll need to start by building the base. Cut two 2×4 inch x 8-foot boards into 78-inch pieces for the higher part of the box, and two boards into 75-inch pieces for the lower part. Make sure all the corners are vertical using a long level framing square.

To ensure stability and ease of use, the base platform should be durable enough to carry the weight and number of people it is meant to carry. Cut 2×6 inch x 8-foot boards into specific pieces, such as 42 ½ inches and 45 inches, to create the floor joists and frame.

The next step is to assemble the box frame onsite. Use an EZ bracket to attach the corner boards with 3/8 x 16×3 inches carriage bolt, hex nuts, and washers. Make sure all shooting openings are in the proper position for proper shooting and aiming.

To build the box itself, cut wood to size with a miter saw. Our box measures approximately 22" on each side to make a square, and is roughly 10" tall. Be sure to measure your tree's stand/base first to determine the exact size of your box.

Here's a list of materials you'll need for the box:

  • 2×4 inch x 8-foot boards (cut to size)
  • EZ bracket
  • 3/8 x 16×3 inches carriage bolt, hex nuts, and washers
  • Wood filler
  • Paint
  • Sticky velcro

To assemble the box, use a brad nailer and 1 inch nails, and add a little wood glue behind each trim piece. Fill all nails holes and gaps with wood filler and sand smooth once dried.

To install and elevate the box stand, move it to the location where the box stand will be mounted, and slip the 4×4 inch post using the EZ bracket and attach it using lag bolts. Make sure each of the brackets holds the joint firmly.

Here's a step-by-step guide to installing the platform:

1. Mark out the spots and create holes with the right depth and dimensions capable enough to support the entire weight of the box stand.

2. Sit the platform into the holes you created and ensure it is properly leveled.

3. Use 2 x6 inch x 8-foot wood to create ascending and descending stairs, which will be placed at the center of the box stand.

4. Secure each step using four different 3/8 x 3-inch lag bolts with washers.

A place tree typically stands between 3 to 6 feet tall and is often placed on a mantel or console table. Its slender shape makes it perfect for fitting in tight spaces.

You can choose a place tree that matches your Christmas tree's color scheme or go for a contrasting look to create a fun and playful vibe. Some people even use a place tree as a base and add a small Christmas tree on top.

A place tree can be decorated with lights, garlands, and ornaments just like your main Christmas tree. This allows you to create a cohesive look throughout your home.

Placing a place tree around your Christmas tree can also help to hide any unsightly cords or wires, keeping your display looking tidy and polished.
