Shower door headers are a crucial component of a shower door system, providing structural support and a clean, finished look. A header is typically mounted above the shower door, spanning the width of the opening.
Headers can be made from various materials, including aluminum, steel, and wood, each with its own set of benefits and drawbacks. Aluminum headers are lightweight and corrosion-resistant, making them a popular choice for modern shower doors.
The header's design is often influenced by the type of door being used. For example, a pivot door requires a header that can support the door's weight and movement. A sliding door, on the other hand, may require a header with a more minimalist design to avoid obstructing the door's track.
Types of Shower Door Headers
Shower door headers come in various types, each with its own unique characteristics.
One of the most common types is the Standard Header, which is typically made of wood or MDF and is designed to fit standard shower door sizes.

A Header with a Built-in Shelf is a practical option, providing additional storage space within the shower area.
Headers can also be categorized based on their functionality, such as a Header with a Built-in Grab Bar for added safety.
Materials and Finishes
PRL's shower door headers are made from strong, durable aluminum to accommodate heavy glass loads. This material choice is crucial for withstanding the weight of the glass, ensuring a safe and sturdy installation.
Contoured shower door headers are available in two stock lengths, 6 and 10 feet. This makes it easy to find a header that fits your shower space.
These headers are fabricated for 3/8″ glass thicknesses, providing a secure fit for your shower door.
Components and Kits
The Deluxe Header Kit is designed to provide additional support and safety for glass panels that don't reach the ceiling. It's available in three lengths: 66", 98", and 144".
The Header Extrusion has a narrow 1-1/4" face to minimize the visible sight line. This makes it a great choice for installations where aesthetics are important.
You can choose from three types of corners: 90 Degree, 135 Degree, or Adjustable. These are sold separately, so you can pick the one that best fits your needs.
If you're working with pivot hinge installations, you'll need the special Adapter Block, which is also available separately.
