Designing and DIY-ing your RV interior light fixtures can be a fun and rewarding experience. With the right materials and a little creativity, you can create a unique and functional lighting system that reflects your personal style.
Consider the color temperature of your light fixtures, which can greatly impact the ambiance of your RV. Warm white light (2700K-3000K) creates a cozy and relaxing atmosphere, while cool white light (3500K-4100K) is more energizing and perfect for task lighting.
When choosing light fixtures, think about the type of lighting you need. Ambient lighting provides overall illumination, while task lighting is focused on specific areas like reading or cooking. LED strip lights are a popular choice for ambient lighting due to their energy efficiency and flexibility.
For a DIY project, repurposing old fixtures is a great way to save money and reduce waste. You can also get creative with materials like mason jars, reclaimed wood, or metal pipes to add a unique touch to your lighting design.

About Our Updated

We decided to update our RV's interior lighting by replacing 6 of the 13 light fixtures. Replacing all 13 at once would have been pricey, especially since the ones we liked most cost $100-300 each.
The cost of materials for the 6 new light fixtures was around $300, not including light bulbs. This is a significant savings compared to buying all 13 new fixtures.
We made 5 of the new light fixtures ourselves to save on cost. This included the one above the media cabinet, the one above the sofa, the one in the hallway, and the mason jar sconces in the bedroom.
Most of the lighting parts we used were purchased from Grand Brass and an Etsy shop. We were able to find flushmount or semi-flushmount lighting that didn't require additional wiring changes.
The bathroom cage light and 3 arm light fixture we made for the hallway were installed in a way that didn't require any major modifications.
