An AGA cooker is a fantastic addition to any kitchen, but it does come with one major consideration: the amount of heat and moisture it produces. This is especially true for the Rayburn model, which can release up to 30 litres of steam per hour.

In fact, the AGA's moisture output is so significant that it can cause condensation to form on walls and windows, potentially leading to mould and damp issues.

However, the good news is that an AGA cooker is designed to be highly efficient, with the majority of its heat being retained within the kitchen. This means that a well-designed kitchen can actually benefit from the AGA's heat output.

AGA Hoods

AGA offer a range of extraction hoods that come in variety of styles that can be integrated or positioned above your AGA cooker.

The stylish pitch and slab designs come in three different sizes: 90cm, 100cm and 110cm. Both hoods have been designed to complement your AGA cooker in both look, colour and performance, whilst creating the ideal environment for cooking.

These hoods work to rapidly clear your kitchen of steam, fumes and odours whilst cooking. They offer a useful remote control to control the speed of extraction.

AGA cooker hoods offer either re-circulatory or extraction options for the kitchen. If you choose a hood with the re-circulation feature, the air from the cooking zone is pulled into the hood which filters the air before releasing back into the kitchen.

You can choose from a range of 16 AGA colours to match your kitchen's style. The hoods are available in all these colours, from gorgeous greys to vibrant blues and traditional cream or black.

The latest AGA extraction hoods are designed to complement your AGA. They come with remote control, a timer function and four speed options, making them a convenient addition to your kitchen.

Ventilation Options

You can externally vent your AGA 7 Series model by pressing the little AGA logo on the controls to turn on the outside fan.

The AGA eR7's ovens are vented through the shroud located on top of the AGA between the two hotplates, unless a power vent kit has been fitted. This is unless a cooker hood is installed above the AGA.

A 6x9 airbrick is recommended by AGA for adequate ventilation, but it's not the only option. You can also install a canopy extractor above the Aga, which has a draught diverter at the base of the flue.

A draught diverter is a normal part of a canopy extractor, and it's connected to a sensor that shuts off the gas if the flue becomes blocked or isn't working properly. This is a safety feature that's worth considering.

If you choose not to externally vent your AGA, it's recommended to install a cooker hood above it, positioned at a minimum height as recommended by the manufacturer from the top of the AGA.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the 7 minute rule on AGA?

The 7-minute rule on an AGA suggests cooking on the hob for no more than 7 minutes before transferring to the oven for even cooking. This helps maintain a balanced cooking process between the hob and oven.

Can you have a cooker without a hood?

Yes, you can have a cooker without a hood, but it's recommended to ensure proper ventilation to maintain good air quality and minimize health risks. Investing in a range hood or alternative ventilation method is beneficial for frequent cooking.
