The Clearvue Cyclone Dust Collector is a comprehensive system designed to capture dust and debris from woodworking projects. It's a must-have for any serious woodworker or DIY enthusiast.
The system includes a cyclone dust collector, a filter bag, and a collection container. This combination provides an efficient and effective way to capture dust and debris.
The cyclone dust collector is the heart of the system, using centrifugal force to separate dust and debris from the air stream. This results in a significant reduction of dust particles being released into the air.
The filter bag is designed to capture finer dust particles and debris, providing an additional layer of protection for the user. It's a crucial component of the system, ensuring a clean and safe working environment.

Installation and Setup
The ClearVue Cyclone Dust Collector is designed for easy installation, with a compact footprint that fits in most shops. It can be placed on a 2x4 or 2x6 lumber for stability.
The collector's 3-inch inlet is compatible with most shop vacuums, allowing for a seamless transition from your existing setup. This means you won't need to worry about purchasing a new vacuum or making significant changes to your workflow.
To ensure proper installation, make sure the collector is level and securely fastened to the floor or workbench. This will prevent any vibrations or movements that could compromise the collector's performance.
Cv1800 Dust Collector
The Clearvue CV1800 Dust Collector is a solid choice for any woodworking project. It's priced around $2,000 with the electrical box, wall mount, and the dust collector itself with the filters.
The CV1800 is a cost-effective option, especially when compared to other dust collectors in its category. The Dust Gorilla Pro 5HP from Oneida costs over $500 more.
Assembling the CV1800 requires some effort, but it's not overly complicated. It comes in a few small boxes and you'll need to assemble the entire blower assembly, including caulking all the seams and mounting the impeller.
It took me roughly six hours to assemble the unit, but it was a fairly straightforward process.
Installing Dust Collection
Installing dust collection is an essential step in ensuring a safe and efficient woodworking experience. Make sure to choose a dust collection system that matches the power of your tools, as outlined in the "Dust Collection System Selection" section.
A 2HP dust collector can effectively handle a router table, while a 5HP collector is recommended for a table saw. The size of the collector also depends on the size of the workspace.
The location of the dust collector is crucial, as it should be placed near the main work area to minimize hose lengths and maximize suction power.
You'll need to connect the dust collector to your tools using 4" or 5" hoses, depending on the tool's requirements.

Dust Collection Ductwork Materials
Flex hose is a terrible choice for ducting due to the amount of air resistance the corrugated sides create.
PVC, snaplock pipe, spiral pipe, and Nordfab are the real choices for dust collection ductwork.
PVC is a great option, with the ability to be cut on a miter saw for nice, square cuts.
Snaplock pipe is another great option, but it's more difficult to work with due to its sharp metal that requires metal cutting blades.
Spiral pipe is a good option, but it may be harder to find a local supplier.
Nordfab is a more expensive option, but it's a great choice if money is no object.
PVC is the choice I went with, and I'm extremely satisfied with its ease of installation and performance.
Impeller Assembly
The Impeller Assembly is a crucial component of the Clearvue Cyclone Dust Collector. It's designed to handle a 6″ intake, specifically sized to receive sewer and drain PVC with specifications of ASTM D2729, ASTM D3034, and SDR 35 Pipe.
The impeller itself is a 15″ 6 Blade welded steel impeller, which is a significant improvement over older models. It's a key factor in the collector's ability to capture dust and debris efficiently.
A straight exhaust transition connects the impeller to any 8″ ID flex hose, making it easy to install and connect to the collection drum. This flexibility is a major advantage in terms of setup and maintenance.
The impeller assembly also includes a 6″ Flex Hose & Clamps for easy connection to the collection drum. This feature makes it simple to attach and detach the drum, reducing downtime and increasing productivity.
Here's a summary of the key components in the Impeller Assembly:
- CV1800 LH Cyclone Body with 6″ intake
- 15″ Blower Housing with 15″ 6 Blade welded steel Impeller
- Straight Exhaust Transition
- 6″ Flex Hose & Clamps
The Leeson 5HP Motor powers the impeller, requiring a 30A breaker to operate safely. It's a reliable and efficient motor that's designed to handle the demands of heavy use.
