Founding and Evolution

BBK Electronics was founded on September 18, 1995, by Duan Yongping in Dongguan, Guangdong, China.

The company started as a single entity but was later divided into three separate factories: the AV factory, the telephone factory, and the computer and video game factory. These factories operated independently, but still shared about 80% of the original BBK channels.

Duan Yongping's decision to leave Subor and create BBK Electronics was motivated by a conflict between him and the boss of Subor. This move allowed BBK to focus on different product lines without the constraints of a previous agreement.

BBK's first product line was the corded telephone, released in 1996. After a year, the company released its first student computer product, the BBG Student Computer (Floppy No.1), which achieved great success and became the most popular student computer product in China.

The company's success continued to grow, and by the beginning of 1999, BBK Electronics was further split into three independent companies with their own equity and personnel structures. This move allowed the companies to operate more independently, but still shared some resources and channels.

In Q1 2017, BBK Electronics shipped 56.7 million smartphones, surpassing Huawei and Apple to become the 2nd largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, behind Samsung. This achievement marked a significant milestone for the company and its subsidiaries, including Oppo and Vivo.
